Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Baltimore Maryland/Washington District of Columbia 330 am EDT Sat may 25 2013 Synopsis... High pressure will build into the middle Atlantic region through the weekend. The high will move offshore early in the week...promoting a warm up. && Near term /today/... As of 07z...upper low is centered over New Jersey with back edge of middle-level cloud shield breaking up over the Maryland western shore. Precipitation has ended across the area. Low upslope clouds persist over The Laurels of PA and the Allegheny Highlands of MD/WV...but are expected to continue eroding as the low level flow backs from north-northwesterly to northwesterly...changing the source region. Today...a vorticity lobe currently seen in infrared/WV over the Georgian Bay of Lake Huron brings some middle-level clouds over central Maryland around midday. Otw sunny with downsloping northwesterly flow gusting to around 30 miles per hour. Maximum temperatures upper 60s to 70f at lower elevations across the County Warning Area. && Short term /tonight/... Northwesterly gusts ease with only sheltered valleys decoupling. Min temperatures low 40s inland with some upper 30s in the shen valley and around 50f for urban/near shore. Cool again in the Allegheny Highlands...went for middle 30s with 925 and 850mb temperatures prognosticated a couple degrees higher than now. Despite expected mixing will go with a frost advisory for western portions of Allegany...Mineral...and Grant counties (division is the Allegheny front) as well as Highland/ Pendleton. Temperatures tend to drop off rapidly in clear conditions as expected tonight...so went for midnight to 8 am for the headline. && Long term /Sunday through Friday/... The extend portion of the forecast looks pretty cut and dried. High pressure over the area Sunday should bring plenty of sunshine and continued cooler than normal temperatures. On Monday hgh temperatures should draw closer to normal - u70s. Aftr that daytime temperatures should climb as high pressure moves offshore and a trough develops east of The Rockies right through Friday. Highs in the u80s...possibly a90 by week's end. Lows in the 60s. Precipitation chances look pretty scant in the coming weak. Perhaps afternoon/evening isolated thunderstorms over the mountains for the 2nd half of the weak. && Aviation /06z Saturday through Wednesday/... Northwesterly flow continues to gust around 20 knots until sunrise...with 25 to 30 knots through the daylight hours. Gusts ease this evening with around 10 knots overnight. VFR with any ceilings breaking this morning. In the extend VFR conds expeceted through midweek. && Marine... Northwesterly flow 20 to 25 knots overnight...increasing to 30 knots during daylight hours with an Small Craft Advisory. Winds ease this evening with middle/upper tidal Potomac dropping off the Small Craft Advisory at 8pm. Rest of waters see 20 knots gusts through tonight. In the extend...it is likely that some gusts reaching Small Craft Advisory level will occur on the Bay/lower ptmc Sun afternoon. Then no probs expeceted on the waters mem day or through midweek && Coastal flood... Gusty northwest flow will continue to push water out of the Chesapeake Bay...with water levels -1 to -1.5 MLLW at low tide through this evening. Lwx watches/warnings/advisories...
