Scientific Forecaster Discussion

Area forecast discussion...updated National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia 907 PM EDT Friday may 24 2013 Update... winds subsiding as expected. Going forecast looks good. Some concern about record lows being tested tonight...especially at ahn and mcn /see record temperatures in climate section below/. So far only csg showing drier conditions than forecast so could see min temperatures go a couple degrees lower than forecast. Otherwise temperatures and dewpoints on track. Will continue to monitor for this. Snelson && Previous discussion... /issued 356 PM EDT Friday may 24 2013/ Short term /tonight through Saturday night/... pleasant weather expected for the short term. Clouds that lingered across north Georgia much of the morning have dissipated and skies are expected to remain clear overnight. Northwest flow across the area aloft while high pressure centered over the Great Lakes region continues to dominate at the surface. With the surface high influencing the County Warning Area through the short term...the area will remain dry. A weak shortwave moves through the Tennessee Valley Saturday night and approaches north Georgia by late Saturday night however no precipitation is expected with this shortwave and the main impact will be an increase in middle level clouds. Overnight lows will be well below normal tonight and Saturday night. Although ahn low temperature forecast for tonight is close to a record minimum temperature...mcn is the only place forecast to tie the record min. For Saturday night though...temperatures will be slightly warmer and am not forecasting any record breaking lows. Maximum temperatures on Saturday will remain a few degrees below normal. 11 Long term /Sunday through Friday/... the models keep the area of high pressure in control for much of the forecast area...though a short wave rides over the ridge that could threaten some of the northern counties with a chance of showers Sunday. However...we chose not to include the mentioning of showers at this time...as moisture was limited. As the flow continued around the high...another short wave moves across Alabama and northern Georgia Monday night into Tuesday... and posing the threat of showers again...through not a lot of moisture present for this event either. Temperatures will be on the rise throughout the period...starting in the upper 40s and lower 50s for morning lows Sunday...and peaking in the middle and upper 80s by Friday. 37 Fire weather... fuels are dry across most of north and central Georgia. With winds speeds above 15 miles per hour...Fire Danger Statement remains in effect through this evening. Although wind speeds will be lower on Saturday...relative humidity values will drop below 25 percent for around 4 hours so will have to monitor this for a potential Fire Danger Statement needed for Saturday.
