Heat Advisory

Expires 10:00 PM EDT on September 16, 2014
Statement as of 1:42 PM PDT on September 14, 2014

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM PDT Tuesday...

* high temperatures... 80s along the immediate coast... rising into
the 90s a few miles inland and over 100 degrees in inland Orange
County... the inland Empire and far inland valleys and foothills
of San Diego County.

* Impacts... abnormally hot temperatures can be stressful to
animals and humans... making it hard for the body to acclimate
and remain hydrated. Without precautions even healthy adults
could experience heat stress and illness.

* Locations... all areas west of the mountains... except within a
few miles of the coastline.

* Timing... the hottest weather is expected to persist through
Tuesday... though temperatures will be slightly cooler Tuesday.
Temperature will lower further on Wednesday... although humidity
will be on the rise due to an influx of monsoonal moisture from
the south.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 911.
