The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a high surf
advisory... which is in effect from 8 PM Monday to 6 am AST
Wednesday. A coastal Flood Watch has also been issued. This
coastal Flood Watch is in effect from Monday evening through
Tuesday afternoon.
* Waves and surf: northwest swells of 8 to 11 feet will generate
large breaking waves of 10 to 16 feet and frequent strong rip
currents.
* Timing: very rough and dangerous surf conditions will begin to
affect the local coast on Monday evening.
* Impacts: large breaking waves... frequent and strong rip
currents and beach erosion are expected.
* Coastal flooding: coastal flooding is likely as large swell and
higher normal tides will combine on Monday night and Tuesday.
* The times and heights of the next high tides for the following
locations are:
San Juan harbor: 2:26 am AST Tuesday at 1.4 feet.
Arecibo: 1:34 am AST Tuesday at 1.8 feet.
Aguadilla: 1:22 am AST Tuesday at 1.4 feet.
Magens bay3:36 am AST Tuesday at 0.9 feet.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.
A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings... and take action to
protect property.
