Public Information Statement

Statement as of 10:00 am EDT on April 17, 2014

Subject: closure of the Pittsfield /pitm1/ Maine flood forecast
         point on the sebasticook river

Due to sequestration the USGS discontinued streamgage operations on
the sebasticook river at Pittsfield Maine on January 23. USGS
streamflow observations are critical inputs to NWS river forecast
models.

Due to the lack of streamflow data the National Weather Service will
have to end flood forecast services for the sebasticook river at
Pittsfield /pitm1/ effective 30 days from today. The National
Weather Service will continue to issue flood/flash flood warnings on
a larger geographic scale but point specific flood warnings for
Pittsfield on the sebasticook river will have to be terminated.

The National Weather Service welcomes public feedback.
