Wind Advisory, Heat Advisory

Expires 8:00 PM PDT on October 05, 2014
Statement as of 1:16 PM PDT on October 1, 2014

... Wind Advisory in effect from 2 am to 2 PM PDT Thursday...
... Heat advisory remains in effect from 11 am Friday to 8 PM PDT
Sunday...

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 2 am to 2 PM PDT Thursday.

* Winds... northeast to east winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50
mph through and just west of the San Gorgonio Pass... below the
Cajon Pass... and near the Santa Ana foothills.

* Temperatures... day-time highs of 97 to 105 degrees.

* Timing... hottest conditions are expected from late morning to
late afternoon Friday through Sunday. Windiest conditions from
late tonight through early Thursday afternoon.

* Location... windy conditions through and just west of the San
Gorgonio Pass... below the Cajon Pass... and near the Santa Ana
foothills.

* Visibility... locally reduced in blowing dust.

* Impacts... heat can be stressful to animals and humans... making
it hard for the body to acclimate and remain hydrated. Without
precautions even healthy adults could experience heat stress and
illness. The locally strong winds will make for difficult
driving conditions... especially for high profile vehicles.

* Outlook... temperatures will lower slightly on Sunday... with
continued slow cooling early next week. Winds will weaken
Thursday afternoon... as gusts in the favored areas lower to 30
mph or so.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 911.

A Wind Advisory for the mountain ridges... passes... canyons and
wind favored coastal foothills means that wind gusts of 50 mph
are expected. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.
